Everything is a process

So it was with the Woden Still project. It started out as a “what if” in 2014, and gradually came into focus. Once we started paying lawyers we realized the “what if” had become a “when”.

Ever since then we have been learning, planning, perfecting.

We’ve made lots of mistakes and had almost as many successes. We jumped in armed only with our love of a little known and underappreciated spirit, traditional schnapps, knowing next to nothing about how to distill or run a business. The more we stumbled, the more we fell in love with the process. And when we tasted our first bottle of spirit, we knew we were on the right track.

What is schnapps?

Schnapps means different things in different parts of the world. Here in the USA its often associated with the first alcoholic beverage you ever tried. And there was no complexity to the flavor beyond sugar. In Europe and the Balkans, schnapps is brandy, usually immature – that is, aged in the bottle and not In a barrel.  This kind of schnapps is very complex, and can tease out flavors from everything from cherry blossoms to sassafras.

We make European style schnapps from locally sourced ingredients. The first thing to hit your palate is a smootrh mild taste, followed by an explosion of fragrance. It's the essence of spring, summer or harvest captured in a bottle.  We can't wait to share this elixir with you!
